TRAINING TO SAVE LIVES. ARE YOU PREPARED?

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death in the Unites States. Each year, nearly 360,000 people experience SCA  outside the walls of a hospital. SCA is the leading cause of work place death, killing 10,000 workers every year.

SCA is an electrical (rhythm) problem. SCA occurs when the heart develops an abnormal rhythm and cannot pump blood. The person becomes unresponsive and unconscious. Death occurs within minutes if the person does not receive immediate life-saving treatment.

A heart attack is a plumbing (clot) problem, and occurs when blood flow to the heart is blocked. Heart attacks symptoms may present themselves immediately or may take weeks to appear. A person suffering a heart attack will likely be awake and responsive. Occasionally a heart attack may lead to SCA.

REDUCING DEATH AND DISABILITIES

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, or CPR, is a lifesaving technique critical in most emergencies when no breathing or only occasional gasps are detected from the victim. Although a victim is not restored immediately with electrical shock from an Automated External Defibrillator (AED):
  • Without help, SCA survival rates are less than 5%
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) alone may save 7-10% of victims
  • CPR and use of an AED increases survival rates to nearly 70%
An AED is the only tool available that will shock a heart back into rhythm.
